After trying nearly every fix offered on this site, along with quite a few
others and using MS knowledge base (waste of time), I finally solved this
problem.
Editing the registry did NOT solve it, as directed in the kb. Deleting the
email account and starting with a new one did not solve.
The problem was the password was never saving even though the box was
checked to do so.
Here was my fix: create a new windows user account, log on to that account,
start up fresh Outlook (never launched for that user), and created the same
settings. It worked perfectly.
THEN I had to migrate files/folders/programs/etc, which is not too bad. But
HERE is the kicker:
You DO NOT want to simply import your old .pst file. YOU MUST CAN IT FOR
ERRORS UNTIL IT SCANS CLEAN FIRST.
Search -> Files/Folders -> scanpst.exe
Run it
Every time it finds an error, repair it and start the scan over. Once it
runs all the way through, THEN you have a good file.
I copied my main .pst file to the desktop and ran the scan from there.
THEN, and ONLY then, did I import the .pst file to the new user Outlook.
Of course I had to re-setup the desktop and shortcuts and so on, but that
was minimal time compared to the huge number of hours I lost trying to fix
the problem to begin with.
Hope this helps someone. What a real pain, since the usual fixes were of no
use.
This one came directly from a free call to MS, so hat's off to MS for this
one fix, just wish it was in the kb somewhere!
