Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop DB Utility doesn't come up. E'04 has worked lovely since migrating over from 1.05 on old machine. Today no love and at a loss as to how to fix. since all the entourage hints that Diane has posted are locked up in my 9 GB DB in a folder so i could find them if i needed them.

already validated fonts & fontcachetool is on my desktop. in dire straits!

there was a MS process still loaded that i found in activity monitor and force quitting that allowed DB Utility to start.

will 08 solve the duplicate events with iCal and MobileMe?

How much free space do you have on your drive now? A 9GB database is pretty
big and rebuilding created a copy so that¹s 18GB taken up right there. How
much RAM do you have?

Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space

I would also use Disk Utility to verify your drive. You will need to boot
from another volume or your install DVD to run Repair Disk.

so got up and running and decided to do an export and got the following message:
There was a problem saving one of your messages. Your Office database may be damaged. Start the Database Utility to verify your database.

So did that and it returned the result that everyone is very happy. so now how does one do an export of the E'04 DB? it is being backed up on Time Capsule so maybe i am just being too "belt and suspenders"?

Verify database is not 100%. If you can¹t export as .rge then there are
problems in the database.

1. try export as .rge but do not include messages. If that fails, then do
each item separately to find which items are corrupted.
2. use the export as MBOX script to get messages. It will fail on the folder
with corruption. Divide that folder in half and drag each half to see if you
can further narrow down the corruption. Keep subdividing until you get down
the last few messages. Drag them as individual messages to the desktop.

Tip: If you find a folder with corruption, rename it with xxx in front of
the name to force it to the bottom. Run script again to see if other folders
are corrupted. The script is much faster especially if you have lots of
folders and subfolders.

Using Time Machine to backup Entourage basics:

It's advised by the developers not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage
database. If the database is copied while being used, the backup could be
corrupt. You can set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data
folder and create an iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so
you get one backup daily in Time Machine.

thanks Diane - didn't know about TC and Entourage. does Ent need to be shut down before the event runs?

and if so, is there a way to get Ent to restart after backup?

D

Diane Ross

does Ent need to be shut down before the event runs?

Not only Entourage but all Microsoft applications including hidden ones.

re_backing_up.html>

or

In SuperDuper you can use a shell script to launch applications after backup
but in the Automator script I don't think this is possible of if it is,
getting the timing right would not be easy.
