1-700 clean up

Hi everyone,

I am really new to excel so please excuse the stupid question.
I will have a column called "video #" with about 700 entries, al
random. Can excel clean this list up 1-700? How can I do this?

Thanks for the help.

Do you mean sort the list by number? If so go Data on the Toolbar, Sort,
highlight the range, Select Ascending or Descending, OK

Yes that works great! But I have encountered another problem. Th
numbers get sorted fine, but I have to find a way to lock the rows.
When I sort, the video #'s, (1-700) the video titles don't move wit
their Video #'s as they should. For example.

Abraham.................#445
Star wars................#234
The Matrix...............#5

Then I sort the number column:

Abraham................#5
Star Wars..............#234
The Matrix.............#445

The numbers are sorted, but the titles haven't changed with them.
Can I lock the Rows somehow?

Thanks again,
Ryan

Super Librarian: Select ALL the data you want to stay together, and SORT ON
the video # row, and it will keep the data together. The versions of excel I
have used always asks "There is data next to the data you wish to sort, do
you wish to include that too?".

When I said highlight the range, I meant the WHOLE range, that is to say if
your data was in three columns, then highlight all three columns. I'm sorry,
I should have explained that or advised you to make a back-up copy first and
work on that. If you've selected one column only from data in multiple
columns then I'm afraid its permanently screwed, (scrambled). Hope you have
a copy or can replicate the original,
Apologies,
Alan.
