+1 automaticly entered into phone number? How do I stop?

Whenever I enter a new phone number for a contact, I
click on the little pencil icon. THen I enter the zip
code and number and click "ok". When I do that, a +1 is
automaticly entered into the number? How do I stop this?

Turn off the option to automatically add the country code.
Contacts > Actions > Call Contact > New Call...
