Any idea why, when first "Save" a new Word 2001 document, the Name box
always comes up with this

1 d g mgd g mg

instead of the usual first line or part first line of the Document

It does not really matter since I seldom use the suggestion - it is just
intriguing - I do not know what I have done recently to bring this upon me!

If there is a default I could set there a better suggestion I would default
it to

Hi Francis,

Not a clue really, but it's a very intriguing problem :). Try this: With
Word quit, navigate to your Normal template in Finder (Applications>
Microsoft Office 2001> Templates> Normal). Rename Normal (i.e., OldNormal).
Relaunch Word. Create a new document and see what happens.

If that fixes it but you have customizations in OldNormal that you want to
keep, post back or see
<http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootWord2001.htm>.

Let us know what happens!

I suspect that the File | Properties dialog for your Normal template has
that text set as the title, which overrides first line (but not existing
filenames in a Save As). Open up Normal and check; or check in any new
document--if that is set in Normal (or the template in use), I think it
carries over to all new documents.

Beth and Daiya - I tried Beth's first and am ashamed not to have remembered
Tools > Templates and Add-ins... > Organizer which I have used some time ago

Thank goodness all my custom tollbars and their buttons are back working as
before

All's well - once again I am grateful to MVP - now back to work!
