Do you gave a lot of mounted volumes on your desktop?
If so, disconnect them before running the updater.
Hello!
What exactly is meant by "mounted volume" in this context?
Does it refer to volumes listed by the 'mount' command or
something else?
I have had the same problem upgrading Office X 10.0.0
to 10.1.2. The upgrader gets stuck "Gathering Information".
I am running MacOs X 10.2.8. The machine is a home
computer connected via cable modem. All file sharing
has been disabled in the sharing part of the system
preferences app.
Not only does the upgrader get stuck, the entire machine
seems to get stuck. It is still possble to move the mouse
and the dock is responsive, but actually doing something
is next to impossible, Applications cannot be started and
force-quitting the upgrader takes several minutes.
Since the general opnion seems to be that the upgrader
does not handle remote disks very well I used the mount
command to see what was mounted:
/dev/disk0s9 on / (local)
devfs on /dev (local)
fdesc on /dev (union)
<volfs> on /.vol (read-only)
automount -fstab [329] on /Network/Servers (automounted)
automount -static [329] on /automount (automounted)
Since this is a home machine I killed the automount daemon.
This made the two last mounts to go away.
When I tried to run the upgrader again, the upgrader still
got stuck "Gathering Information" but the machine was
much more responsive. While slow, it was possible to work
in an already opened terminal window, and force-quitting
the upgrader only took 30 seconds or so.
Might the mount line
<volfs> on /.vol (read-only)
be relevant for this issue? If so, how do I get it
unmounted?
Cheers,
Lars
