10.1.4 can't find an installation???

I have Office X SR-1 installed, and whenever I try to upgrade to the 10.1.4
(Exchange update), the installer fails telling me it can't find a valid
installation to upgrade. Office is located in the Applications folder of my
hard drive and is a legal copy, so I don't know why it won't install?
Anyone?

Thanks in advance!

First you have to apply Office 10.1.2 Updater before you can apply 10.1.4.
Do a Get Info on Entourage or Word [only] in the Finder. If they are already
10.1.1, then you don't need to apply 10.1.2. But they are probably 10.1.0.

That's probably all you need - 10.1.2 , then 10.1.4, then 10.1.5. But if
Entourage and Word are already at 10.1.1 and the 10.1.4 updater won't work,
you'd have to backtrack:

You would first have to uninstall, That's very easy
- on the Office v. X CD, you will find a Value Pack. In the Value Pack
Installer is "Remove Office". If you never installed that before, do it now.
It will put a Remove Office folder on your desktop, Within that is the
Remove Office app. Double-click it and it will trash Office and its various
preference files and folders. It will NOT touch your data, including
Entourage messages, etc. That's all left in place.

After running Remove Office, empty the trash. Then install Office v. X from
the CD (you'll need your Key Code from the CD sleeve too). Then apply the
Office 10.1.2 updater, then 10.1.4, then 10.1.5 That's it.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - 2001 or X.

Paul,
Thanks for the help - that worked as I was at 10.1.0. I'm just
surprised they didn't put the version in the actual program when you do an
About - all it said on mine was SR-1. Oh well - all is better now.

Thanks again!

Entourage tells you in the About window. It would be nice if the other
applications did as well.

The most reliable way to check your version is to open the Microsoft Office
X folder, and then open the Office subfolder. Select (single-click) the
Microsoft Component Plugin, and then go to File -> Get Info. The version
number displayed there tells you what updates you've applied.
