10.1.6 - WORD freezes at startup..?

C

Colin Yarwood

Morning all,

I installed the update to 10.1.6 and all my MS ware works as before except
WORD.

I get the startup screen (blue mini window etc ... Is that the "splash
screen"?) but the little muticoloured propeller (hate it!!!) goes on
endlessly.

I found an old version 10.1 and used all my saved updaters to get back to
10.1.5 which was working mostly OK but having then copied the new 10.1.5
word across in place of the non working 10.1.6 it crashed.

I suspect there may be other items to be retrod but will that not effect all
my working 10.1.6 MS ware too?

Help, please

Colin

Office is a suite of applications built on a common base - much of the
work that goes on in Word is done by the underlying Office components. I
suspect there will be huge problems with mixing and matching updates.

At this point, I'd recommend using the Remove Office application on your
install disk, reinstalling Office and applying the updaters. I would
first try 10.1.6 again, since it really doesn't do much more than
consolidate previous updates.

If you choose to only go to 10.1.5, apply the relevant updaters. Since
you've got them saved, it should only be a matter of a few minutes.

I don't know why you're crashing, though if you're getting the SCROD
(spinning colored rainbow of death), either reinstalling or fixing
permissions and fonts should work, see

Make sure you don't install any plug-ins (e.g., End Note, Acrobat) until
Word is up and working again. From what I've seen, you probably
shouldn't install End Note at all, and if you install Acrobat (the full
version, not reader), you should look here:
