10.6 SL: none of the Office apps will start

Hello,

After updating to Snow Leopard I can't use any of the Office apps. None of them will load.

I did a reinstall from the cd, ran the updater three times (so the current version is 12.2.1), but it gave no solution. I've also checked the Font Book (as mentioned in this thread: <http://www.officeformac.com/ms/ProductForums/Office/4096/0)> and ran disk utility. It's definitely not a font problem and disk permissions are fine too.

What could be the problem?

Thanks, Jelger

Did you still try trashing the font cache??
and with Font Book, did you "resolve duplicates"?
What could be the problem?

Well like that it's hard to tell. Anything even remotely informative in
the crash logs (a common pattern in the crashed thread, a refernece to
fonts? a reference to anything??)

Thanks for your reply.

About Font Book, yes, I did use "resolve duplicates". There were about ten duplicate fonts. But the problem is still there.

Where can I find the font cache?

The font cache is not something you want to play with manually. I use
TinkerTool System for that (shareware).
There are a bunch of utilities that can do that, but the free ones I
know haven't yet been updated for Snow Leopard (Onyx).

In most cases simply shutting down the Mac will flush the font caches. It's
only if you continue to have a suspected font related issue that you should
have to rely on a utility to purge them or manually delete them.

One user mentioned he had to manually remove the fonts.

2. As instructed I searched for duplicate fonts, but it wasn't enough to
turn them off in Font Book and reboot. I had to manually go in and remove
them. This was only for fonts in our user folders (we all had alternate
versions of courier installed). This solved the crashing issue with attached
jpgs.

3. Finally I turned off the "Display complex HTML in email messages"
preference. This fixed the crash that was happening with some email
newsletters.

Hope this helps!

That might be a good option.
Rebooting the Mac pressing the Shift key down (safe boot) can also clear
the System font cache.
