100% CPU Usage and slow loading document

J

John

I have installed office XP professional and all of the
product updates on a pent 4 1.8 with 256mb. When I load a
new word document the CPU usage jumps to 100% and takes ~
2 minutes to load. During this load time the windows task
manager say word is not responding. Then it finally loads
and everything is fine. Please respond by email. Thanks

Hi John--

A # of things can cause this CPU slurping or CPU intensive behavior when
opening word docs. I don't know any Word 2002 specific issues
particularly--sometimes 3rd party extra tools can account for this.

Try running Adaware from www.lavasoftusa.com and
Spybot Search and Destroy security.kolla.de/

because I've seen malware, spyware, and unstable BHO's cause this behavior
with Word docs in Office XP. Also the obvious. Check out any processes
that you may get rid of that may run on startup. As you know Win 2K and Win
XP by default can fireup with 39-41 processes going in the background on
average. Take a look at msconfig--sometimes apps you forgot about and
downloaded recently are culprits that don't need to run on startup. Also
take a look at Black Viper's site for helpful context on service
configurations. You may be able to kill some processes that are
contributing to this word up CPU intensive equation.

Good luck,
