1024x768 monitor resolution for Office 2007?

S

Slipsilver

Does anyone know why we have to set our monitors at 1024x768 for Office 2007.
My users like 800x600 as they say 1024 hurts their eyes? Is there parts of
Word etc that won't display if you don't set your monitor as recommended?

Many thanks.

You can use 800x600. In that case you will see groups on the Ribbon
collapse to adjust to the screen size. The best way to see this is to
compare the Home tab of e.g. Word directly between a computer with
800x600 and one with 1024x768. You will see the difference. If your
users can live with the extra clicks that come with 800x600 due to the
collapsing, then you can stay with it.
The why is that monitor resolutions simply have become larger (as have
monitors) over time and MS acknowledged this fact with 2007.

they should have gone for flexibility and scalability.. so that it could
adjust with any monitor... many people have trouble with eye strain... and
the problem is growing!

The office 2007 gui has many problems...

Can you say bad design?

It does adjust as I just explained. Did you miss that part?
It's a pretty common thing to abandon 800x600 and consider 1024x768 the
minimum in the days where everyone has at least a 17" monitor (and
laptops with small monitors are anyhow not for people with eyesight
problems). I myself decided that my website was require 1024x768 as a
minimum.
So I don't agree with you. It's good design.

Sorry to be stupid, but I obviously don't understand the meaning of 'or
higher'. Your sales 'pitches' for Office 2007 say '1024x768 or higher
resolution monitor', so I assumed that I couldn't use it on a netbook with a
resolution of 1024x600. You're now saying that I can?
