12.1.0 UPDATE FAILS

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Update fails with: "You cannot install Office SP1 Update on this volume. A version of the software to install this update was not found on this volume". I'd love to just remove and reinstall but the remove office utility fails with "Office 2008 not installed on this computer".

I was able to successfuly reinstall Office 2008, from original media, previous version was found and deleted. Office 2004 is also installed and would like for it to remain. I trashed MS Ofc 2008 settings.plist & OfficePID.plist before the reinstall and repaired permissions.

I'm stumped how to get past the error.

Some of the gotcha errors installing Office 2008 have more than one
solution. See this page for help:

At the top of the page are several links that you should read.

If you ever installed the beta this could result in problems with installs.
