Processor: Power PC

downloaded the new 12.1.1 update for office 2008, and now everytime i try to open any office program, it closes it and takes me to the "setup assistant", promping me to participate in a survey. i have done the survey, and not done the survey, and it still closes when i open it. even if i try to open it through a file i made previously, it still goes to the setup assistant. what can i do to fix it?

did what it said, dragged the file off the virtual disk, then ejected it and tried again, and no luck. i also deleted the .dmg file an it still didn't work.

I'm not sure you followed the intended instructions - the steps in your
reply aren't a part of the standard process, and they alone will not resolve
the problem. Try the method on this page - it's a little different. Perform
the 5 steps exactly as listed, but a) make sure no Office programs are
running when you start, b) empty the Trash before restarting, and c) repair
disk permissions after restarting before launching any Office programs.

clicking on that link took me nowhere to anything that lists instructions on how to fix it.

besides, i just re-installed office completely and it works fine. i'm ignoring the updates if it's that much of a hassle for microsoft to release something that actually works.

The reinstallation is a temporary solution... You'll have to update sooner
or later :) The SP1 & 12.1.1 updates provide significant fixes to the
original release & really should be done. If you did a removal using the
Remove Office utility it may have served the purpose, so perhaps the updates
will go more smoothly.

I'm sorry the link got broken by the web site, but I should have realized
that a URL of that length wouldn't hold up. The "condensed" version of the
URL is here if you should happen to need it:
