12.1.9 Update Contiunally Loops From AutoUpdate

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Is anyone having this problem? I tried applying the update from Microsoft AutoUpdate and after pressing "Check For Updates," then "Install", it downloads the update, but then asks to Install. It is continually looping on this.

It never installs the update, or even get to the "EULA" page, just keeps
popping up saying "The Following Updates are available for your Microsoft
Software."

We're seeing it here as well (many departments throughout the U...)

Any MVP's want to get on the horn about this?

Or maybe it'll be magically working tomorrow?

I'm making the assumption that MS is going to respond to this. It's a Catch-22 situation, the updater fails and therefore, cannot be fixed.
A message should be sent out pointing to a downloadable dmg file.
BTW, updating manually does work. (Therefore the updater does not)

Yeah I thought it might have fixed since I was having the same issue with 12.1.7. Looks like same problem, my software updater downloads the software and then it gets to the choose drive window in which a red warning comes up that states the version needed for this update is unavailable when in truth it is. Microsoft continues to keep me unimpressed on the Mac side...

I just re-ran the Auto update (after a failed earlier attempt) and it worked fine....no issues. All apps updated to 12.1.9

This is at 10:00pm EST on 6/9/09

Isolated? I'm seeing lots of people are having this issue. I have yet to see
someone post that autoupdate works.

Then just for completeness, autoupdate worked for me and 40 or so of
machines I support. Haven't had it fail yet.

Of course, anybody it worked for is unlikely to come here to post...

I'm having the same issue as dherrick: Office Update tells me an update is necessary and then it won't allow the update on my boot partition. I have rerun the updater 3-4 times so far. Like others, I have sometimes had a similar problem in the past. I left all files in their default locations.

Does anyone know what file the update is examining to determine eligibility?

It's rare that those who have routine success with anything come to a
newsgroup to announce it ‹ unless of course they happen to be the ones to
solve a truly widespread problem. And even if there are 50 users
experiencing difficulty keep in mind that they represent only 50 of perhaps
millions of installations.

I've been using 2008 on both PPC & Intel since the Beta testing & have never
experienced *any* issues with *any* of the updates. It would take a bit of
research in the groups but you would definitely find that statement has been
made by myself & others a number of times.

There's no question that the problems are real ‹ as well as serious &
frustrating ‹ for those who encounter them, but those problems are not the
result of inherent flaws in the software. If they were these servers would
be so overloaded that nobody would be able to squeeze in another post :)

Although the cause has yet to be determined it is known to be an isolated
local issue. The measures to take can be found here in item #3:

I, too, don't think this was "isolated" -- unless it was isolated in
which "update servers" were being accessed by specific geographic
regions

The update seemed like it was pulled around 4 p.m. EST.

But everything updated fine this morning, so they must have fixed the
problem...

I seem to be having a slightly different problem--I have been able to successfully update to 12.1.9 (at least that's the version that "About Excel" tells me I have--but the updater still wants me to install 12.1.9!

Have those of you who say you're not getting it successfully installed checked to see if it actually is doing the update, but then updater isn't recognizing that?

It could be seeing another copy of Office on another drive. I have backup
drives with Office installed and this confused me the first time it happened
too.

Check this file. If it is showing 12.1.9, then you are updated.

If you still have problems, let us know.

Thanks for all your help. It seems that Microsoft was not ready as usual and there was a problem with the AutoUpdate servers. Around 4pm EST, it seemed to follow thru.

I get a msg that I do not have Office on my Mac! See:

You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.9 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.

Does this mean that the student version can't be updated?
