12.2.3 Updater errors every time.

Auto Updater reminds me every time I run an Office app that I need to
update to the CRITICAL 12.2.3 update of Office 2008 (12.2.1) on my
Intel Power Book running up-to-date OS 10.6.2.

EVERY time it tries to download it again, EVERY time it starts the
install, then EVERY time it errors out saying :
"The Installation Failed. The Installer encountered an error that
caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer
for assistance."

It goes through the progress bar saying Writing files, then switches
to Running Package Script - at which point the progress bar zooms to
finished and immediately shows the error. I've gone to Mactopia and
downloaded the installer myself, nothing seems to matter. How can I
finally install this update?

It could be the script that is trying to quit all Microsoft applications is
hidden and then errors out.

Log out of your User.
Log in with the Shift key down. This disables all startup items.
Now try install the updater.

Updates must be in order.

12.1.0 Must be installed before you can install 12.2.3.

Restart after updating.

If this fails, remove Office and reinstall.

How can I
finally install this update?

Use "Remove Office" and re-install from the DVD then update. Check the
Microsoft Component Plugin after each update to be sure it's showing the
latest version.

/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework

You can get this notice if the AutoUpdater is finding a copy of Office on
another volume that has not been updated, but it sounds like you are not
updated and are unable to update fully.

I'm also unable to install the 12.2.3 update running 10.6.2.
The ComponentPlugin lists v. 12.2.1
Any MS applications list v. 12.2.0
All MS Apps: System Prefs>Security>Firewall>Advanced>"Allow Incoming Connections"
Another computer running 10.5.8 successfully updated to 12.2.3, ComponentPlugin v.12.2.3, all MS apps list 12.2.3. Interestingly, System Prefs>Security>Firewall>Advanced>"Block Incoming connections".

Is there anyone who has successfully updated to 12.2.3 under 10.6.2?

I am having the same problems with the update, each time it gets all the way
to the end and then says it failed and to contact manufacturer.

So, I decided to reinstall from my DVD, and I got the same error!

This sounds like you had the trial installed and are now trying to install
the retail version. You must completely remove the trial before installing
the retail version.

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, I have been very busy with work and family commitments and my email had been hacked, so this update problem fell low on my priority list.

I tried the update one last time tonight, and it worked without error. Odd, but true. I do not know what changed from the last time, but it is now installed.

I do not know why it now works, but it did.

Thanks for the help.
