12 point font size won't work in styles - Word 2007

This is really weird - I am attempting to create a style for Arial 12 pt.
The style is based on 'no style'. I can set the font size to any size, it
seems, except the one I want (12 point).

This seems to happen no matter what other font I choose. The style is
clearly 12 pt, but once I apply it, the text is formatted in 10pt.

Any ideas on this? I have been using styles for quite a while and don't
recall ever seeing this. I also tried selecting the text and clearing the
style and reapplying it, but that doesn't help either.

Editing to say - my style works on text that I use outside of a table.
However, of course, I want the style to use in the table.

So it's like something in the table is overriding my font size
selection....10 pt works, 11pt works, 14 pt works, but 12 pt won't work.

And to save anyone else reading this thread from having to search for the
previous thread, here's this reply from Office MVP Beth Melton:

"It has to do with modifying the Normal style instead of the Document
Defaults. Modify the Document Defaults (click Manage Styles at the bottom of
the Styles task pane and use the tab titled Set Defaults) and set the
default preferences. Then make sure the Normal style is set to match the
Document Defaults and the Table Styles bug will disappear."
