After 5 years a good work with Microsoft Office 2000, all of a sudden I can't
get.doc files to open. I'm told the windows installer will not work "error
1635".
Are there any fixes or sugestions to fix this?
I've got the Microsoft Utility Cleaner, but I don't want to delete
anything, in case I lose Excel--which is still working. I've tried the repair
process from the CD, and System Restore.

Yes, this is covered by http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295823, which
does recommend the registry cleaner followed by reinstallation. I don't
think there's a way to limit the cleaner to just Word.
