1K limit to number of detail tasks per summary tasks

Hi:
One of my project managers insists on not using summary tasks in a project
of more than 1000 tasks. When I insert a summary task into this project, it
seems there is a 1K limit to the number of detail tasks per summary tasks
beyond which Project indents tasks on its own creating non-sensical breakdown
structures. Do you know if the 1K limit is a documented feature?
Thank you,
Christine

Are you using Project 2003? Have you installed SP1? I cannot recreate this
problem on my version.

Or, perhaps you have a memory shortage due to other apps open or lack of
hard disk space for virtual memory?

I am using Project Server 2003/SP1 and have plenty memory and hard disk
space. I can reproduce it here while watching the server.

Do you know whether there is a limit to the detail tasks?

I wonder whether this relates to hotfix 838882: Tasks are not displayed in a
hierarchical structure in MS PWA when you use the "Make the new task a
subtask" option to create task. Staff of the project manager in questions add
tasks from PWA and I see this behavior following adding tasks from PWA but
only in Project Professional not in PWA.

It is very helpful and kind of you to give your time and having responded to
my original question.

Oh, I didn't realize that tasks were being added that way. I thought it was
purely a PPro problem. Sorry, I don't know anything more than what's in the
Hotfix writeup. Might be worth a try since you're having the problem.

Be sure everything is backed up first!
