1mb attachment freezes up computer

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop Someone sent me an attachment 1mb.
When click on email, whole program freezes up for few minutes. is this a bit odd? don't rememer that happening before. thanks.
