2.67 Inch Margins

SOF Guy

I am running into trouble with margins. The document looks normal in the
Print View but when I send it to the printer, I get that nasty error message
telling me that the margins is beyond limits. If I select "FIX," Word inserts
a 2.67 inch margin. In the portrait orientation, I often wind up with a 2.67
margin at the bottom. In landscape, it's one of the side margins which get
set to 2.67 inches. None of the usual methods of changing margins works. I've
tried searching the knowledge base, and the Word HELP files but have not
found a fix.

Well, if you'd used Google to search the microsoft.public.word.printingfonts
NG, you would have found *plenty* of posts. The general consensus until
recently was that this was caused by a conflict between Word 2002/2003 and
the HP drivers for certain LaserJets. Although there are other workarounds,
the one that seemed to work best for most users was to substitute one of the
drivers from http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/index.html. Recently, however, it
has been suggested that this may be yet another result of the "columns" bug.
Try selecting your whole document, going to Format | Columns, and clicking
on the One button (even if it appears to be already enabled), which checks
the "Equal column width" box. It's the failure of Word to check that box
that causes problems on several fronts.
