2 Issue... FP2003 extremely slow on Index

Matt

Ok, so on the index page of my website while in Split or Design mode
frontpage runs EXTREMELY slow. Mouse is alright though the blinking text
cursor takes a long time to appear and while typing frontpage is 10-20
characters behind me.

When switching to code exiting mode the slow down/lag disappears completely.

Now I turned off the Quick Tag Selector (on the View menu) and it SLIGHTLY
improved performence. My index has a lot of tables, 2 iframes on it, and a
flash animation. I have a feeling even though it's not selected, frontpage is
still trying to do the Quick Tag Selector calculation of locating the tags.
Is there anyway to truely disabble it?

I should note that no other page on the site has this problem nor do the 2
other sites I have on frontpage have this trouble. All 3 sites were
originally made in FPXP (2002).

Do the other sites have Flash?

Actually no they don't, but this was NEVER an issue in frontpage 2002, heck
frontpage 2003 isn't even rendering the animation in Design or Split view
(which is something 2002 DID do and 2003 isn't doing, but that doesn't bother
me.) 2003 is basically showing a little box with a lightning bolt icon and
the .swf file name.

I should note the flash animation is just a fade out from one pictute into
another picture into another and then repeat.. it's not a menu or any other
kind of interactive object.

Nope but I commented out the flash animation runs slows. The animation is
just a fade from one picture to another to another and then repeat. It's not
an menu or anything interactive. As a matter of fact in Design and Split
modes Frontpage doesn't even rendered the animation without right clicking it
and telling it to play (just shows a box, a lighting bolt, and the file name.)

The page has not changed a single bit since I went from 2002 to 2003. Never
had this kind of slow down in 2002. Not too happy about it either.

I have a site that I work on, that had flash on a number of pages, which caused FP to crash every
time I access a page with Flash. The solution was to remove the flash from the page and re-insert it
using SSI, so that FP would not attempt to run the flash when I accessed the page.

It's definately NOT the flash. I remove the code from the page and working
with the page in Design and Split mode is still just as slow. As I said, the
page has A LOT of tables and I believe the problem lies with the "Quick Tag
Selector" I believe that frontpage is trying to calculate the tags I'm
working in even though I'm not even using the selector.

Is there any way to turn it off completely? Cause it's certainly not helping
me. I started using frontpage so I wouldn't have to type table or a href=
1,000 of times and I'm starting to think abandoning 2002 for 2003 was a
mistake.

Post a URL to the slow page
