2 out of 3 fields won't grow on report

I have 2 fields side by side for 3 different categories: maintenance
score/maintenance notes, repair score/repair notes, monitor score/monitor
notes. Each shows the field caption and field value. I have set all 3 notes
field value to 'Can Grow'. However for some reason they will not all grow.
The best I can get is 2 out of 3; which 2 CHANGES depending on which one I
set to Not Grow. What could possibly be going on? I have tried stacking
them or placing them sided by side; I have checked the properties for these 3
fields, they are identical. Plus these same 6 fields are used in another
report (score stacked on top of notes; maint, repair, monitor sided by side)
and they grow just fiine. I've also tried copying those fields from the
report that works but in the problem report again they won't grow. Something
strange in the report itself? The only difference between the 2 reports is
that the problem report has a forced page break. But other fields in it grow
fine, even 4 stacked on top of each other.
Help.
Any suggestions?

If, by "side-by-side", you mean aligned horizontally, that could be what's
causing that behavior. If a CanGrow/Shrink control has another control
aligned, that OTHER control anchors the one you want to have change size.

One solution is to slightly un-align the controls.

have you tried setting the "score" controls' CanGrow property to Yes, also?

Thanks Jeff but that didn't do it either. I even tried deleting the score so
I have only the 3 notes but again only one will grow. Something linking them
that I can't determine. For now I'll just work around it. Thanks anyway.

Thank you Tina, I tried your idea but then it really gets weird, none of the
note fields grow. Something odd going on, I'm just going to make the text
field bigger for now.
