2 probs in Word 2K

I'm running Word 2K on XP Home.

I can't enable macros in my documents, as I can't find a Macro submenu
under "Tools"! On previous versions, I could click on "Open" and choose
to open a template. It would then ask if I wanted to open a Macro. This
option is not open for me in Word 2K.

What I do have is about 10 "Mail Merge" sub-menus, even though I have
never used the function.

I couldn't find anything about it on the Word 2K support centre or the
MVPS site. I still have the disks.

If you can't find a given menu item, it's probably because you have adaptive
menus enabled. Open Tools | Customize, select the Options tab, and clear the
check box for "Menus show recently used items first." You can also get to
the Macro Security dialog through Tools | Options | Security.

I re-named normal.dot and hey presto! Problem solved. As this let me
view more of the options in the dialogue box, I could then change the
security level to "ask me" for macros.

So: both problems solved quite easily!
