A clarification if anyone may be able to answer - a bit long-winded of
which I apologize.
Lan-based client running Outlook 2003 on the company's internal mail
server using POP interface (not using Exchange). Outlook configured to
use the "Outlook" profile name, of which all email-acct settings
reference the internal mail server.
Installed a Verizon wireless air-card for use by user when working
remote and established a 2nd profile name of "Verizon Wireless". This
profile has the email acct setup to check the internal company server
for incoming messages, and use the Verizon SMTP server in order to send
messages when the user is working remote.
I setup the "Verizon Wireless" profile to reference the same message
store as used by the "Outlook" profile, the profile that the user has
been using all along for their local network environment (uses the
outlook.pst file)
When I brought the PC up on the wireless card and opened Outlook, I got
the prompt for which profile to use of which I selected the "Verizon
Wireless" profile. Outlook opened up and started pulling down all
messages that were on this users internal mail server (appx 225 msgs.
This user leaves a copy of the messages on the server).
What I don't understand is if I told the "Verizon Wireless" profile to
reference the same mesage store as the on-network profile uses, why did
Outlook go thru the process of pulling down all messages on the server?
A send/receive was done in local mode before initiating the wirelss
profile, so I would expect Outlook to simply look at the outlook.pst
file and display all the messages in each respective folder -
Much appreciated if anyone may be able to clarify -
