2 publishing problems

I have FP 2003 and want to take over my established site but I am having
problems publishing. Server has FP extensions.
First I created my local and when I went to publish it, I can't get past the
login screen. I know I have the right login and password. I have turned off
my firewall.
Second I decided to try to publish it using ftp. Looks as if everything is
going to work and then I get this error - 550full_nav.jpg permission denied.
Ok so what does that mean? If I go to publish log it say it finished publish
to ftp://mysitename.com but when I go to my website it is not updated
Could this be server problems? What can I tell them so they can fix it?
Any help would be appreciated...Thank you.

Use of FTP has corrupted your FP SE
(or they were corrupt preventing you from publishing in http)
- have your host do a repair / reinstall of the FP SE

A 550 error is permissions related (contact your host)
- also make sure you have adequate space remaining on your hosted site
