2 Q's -- Upgrade? Uninstall?

Thank you for your assistance. I would appreciate guidance toward any tools,
articles, discussions, etc., that would be of use to me when uninstalling
Office 2007, or when upgrading from previous versions. Relatives want some
free help.

Knowledge of Windows: Expert; of Office apps usage/configuration: Varies,
but mostly basic; of Office install/uninstall issues, past or present:
little to none.

I like to have all the tools I might conceivably need already in my toolbox
before I start the job. Likewise, I like to know about any possible hitches
I might encounter, about any possibly toxic interactions that might arise
due to the presence of other applications or Windows configurations,
etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Most especially, I'm concerned about
upgrading. The uninstall thing is because I'm very familiar with
applications that don't like to uninstall themselves completely for reasons
that probably look good on paper but which are very irritating and
ridiculously time-consuming for people like me. There are usually tools that
allow one to clean up after such "clean" uninstalls, and/or "dirty" ones as
well, and IME they are often not well advertised.

After a relatively short amount of time working with Windows systems (13
years), I've learned that a day, or even a week of prevention is worth a
freaking YEAR of cure. I thankfully have little reason to deal with Office,
so by my own standards I'm betting I'm in need of substantial preparation.
I've already mentioned the tools again, and when it comes to literature, I
suppose I could limit myself to the following list, which I presume to be
highly professional and trustworthy, but I'd like a fuller reading list.

I've never had a problem upgrading Office, if you want a tool, perhaps the
best one is an Imaging app.
Some users experience problems in uninstalling the Office 2007 trial, but
there is a KB article on manual removal
