2 questions on Entourage <--> iCal synching

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with my queries. I have Entourage 11.3.6
on Leopard.

Any event that I create in Entourage synchs OK into iCal. But I cannot seem
to get events created in iCal to synch in Entourage. Is that working as
designed or do I have an error? (When in Entourage Calendar, the MENU -->
SYNCHRONISE NOW option is greyed out).

Secondly, iCal has the ability to add birthdays from (10.5) Address Book in
iCal. Is there similar functionality in Entourage - adding birthdays
automatically from Entourage Address Book to the Entourage Calendar?
