2000 freezes at startup

I have the same problems as other people - I go to run
word and it freezes at the Microsoft Word Screen - when I
ctl alt del - it tells me that system is low on
resources...

This happened all of a sudden- there are no viruses... and
the system has plenty of spare mem and disk ..
