2000 & Office 2003 updates download but do not install. Solution.

Tried all readily available avenues (on update site), but the result is
always the same. On the Office 03 update attempts the error msg is also the
same:
ErrO - (B2C2AEA4-F1FE-4709-A64F-083D6EDO9396)
Err1 - 1402
Err2 - 3.1.4000.2435
(for what that is worth..??)
And MS is silent.
Suggestions gratefully accepted.
