2002 styles

Now I'm sure I can't be the first person to ask about this, but I've done a
google and afther trawling through quite a few posts I still can't get my
head round this... (I guess I'm just apologising in advance here!)

So what's the deal with styles in Word 2002.

If I make some Heading 1 text bold, all of a sudden I have Heading 1 + bold.

Is this a new style in itself, or is it just displaying the manual
formatting added onto the style?

If it is a new style, isn't it awfully dangerous, seeing as most people use
styles to simply formatting documents and maintain consistancy.

I like to think I know my stuff with Word, but I can see this causing a lot
of problems in my office, and I'd like to be there with some answers when it
does! If anyone can help me out, or point me in the direction of any
articles on this, I'd appreciate it. ( I tried looking on MS knowledge
base, but drew a blank)

Thanks in advance
Ange

YES!!! Thank you so much!!! I have done the same kind of
searches as Ange and could not find how to do this and
this is going to make working wiht XP Styles so much
better. I have been fighting with this and trying to
train people without this knowledge and it will make a big
difference.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Yes, thanks Suzanne. People at work were getting very worked up about new
styles being created unnecessarily. I can put their minds at ease now!
I've also taken a look at the MVP site in your address, and the info there
will come in very useful.

Cheers
