2003 and Hanging Apps

Scott McDonald

We have deployed Office 2003 here and during testing and production testing with a few users everything worked fine. Now that it's rolled out to everyone, I am getting complaints of Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint hanging especially when printing or saving something. This is printing to a network printer, local or to PDF. Saving to local system or network drive.

What could be doing this? I've checked all the forums, newsgroups, FAQ's etc and found nothing to explain it.

Thanks

Hi Scott,

we are experiencing a similiar problem. Run a small network with our primary server running Win2K sp4. Have been running Off97 up until recently. Since upgrading to Off2003 some users are experiencing the following problem...

After closing a file (doc or xls) the server still thinks that the file is open (i.e. the desktop pc does not seem to be closing the file down correctly), therefore if they or anyone else tries to open the same file again they it is displayed as read-only. This happens even if the app (word or excel) is closed before re-opening the file. This is not happening all the time, and the desktop PC's are a mixture of Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro.

Any info on solving this would be greatly appreciated.
