We have a few documents on our network for which there is a long pause
(on the order of five to ten minutes) when opening them during which it
looks like Word has hung. Once open, they seem to be fine, seem to
perform fine, and print and save quickly and without any problem. If I
"Open and Repair" them, it doesn't find any problems. If I re-save
them, the problem doesn't go away. I also tried saving them as an .rtf
file, then opening the rtf file and saving it back as a Word file. The
problem didn't go away and in fact, when opening the .rtf, the
"Converting" message came up in the status bar, a single progress square
came up and then it hung there for about the same amount of time before
continuing.
The documents do this no matter which user opens them on which computer.
All our other documents are fine.
The documents are only one page in length with a filesize of about 100KB
(they're invoices).
All the documents that are having this happen are related, so it's
probable that they were made by opening and resaving previous versions:
i.e. it could be an inherited trait.
Any ideas as to what's happening there?
Also, does anyone have any opinions on Word file fixers? Are they worth
the money? Is any particular one better than the others?
