2003 Office Basic Edition

I own a copy of Microsoft Office 97 Professional Edition which came on my old
machine. My new machine (Dell 2400) came with Office 2003 Basic Edition. Can
I load the Office 97 Professional Edition on the new machine so I can use
Power Point for my old files?

No you may not. "Which came on my old machine" indicates it was OEM. An OEM
licence is forever tied to the system with which it was sold and may not be
transferred. You want PowerPoint on your new system you will need to
purchase it.
