I have a Presario V5000 w a Turion 64 (not dual core) I had Office 2003
professional Installed. my laptop went wacko and i had to take it back to the
day it was bought. I didn't want to lose my office 2003 prog so i archived
onto DVD to be installed once the laptop was working again. well now when i
try to instal , I get a message that says the comp is not set up to run this
app. I do not have the original disc, it was destroyed. Can load my trial
student/teacher office 2003 and Update to 2007 Office prof or do I have to
buy the full version. Also what progs did i not copy on my Office 2003 prof.
I went to Program Files\microsoft office and thought theey would all be
there. obviouly i was wrong. I don't want to pay 4 a full edition, just an
upgrade. can anybody help me? PLEEEEEZ!

The original office 2003 professional was NOT preinstalled, it was purchased.
It installed perfectly. I assumed that all the files were in the
programfiles\microsoft office folder so thats what i archived. I then reset
my comp and when i replaced the folder from the DVD (not the original, which
was destroyed from my infant child) i received an error message stating that
the system was not configured for the app! So i started the preinstalled
Student/teacher office 2003. I checked on the office 2007 Professional site
and it said if i had the required version of "works", i could upgrade. (and i
believe i do). If I don't though then what ur saying is i'll have 2 shell out
the $ 4 the full ver of office 2007 prof, right?

Sorry - it's not that simple. You can't upgrade a trial version.

Where did you get the 2003 version? Was it preinstalled or did you buy it
reatil?

If you can prove that you own a retail version, you can call Microsoft and
get a copy of the CDs for a nominal fee (~$30).

(When you install Office, files are scattered all over the place, not just
one. The days of all of your files being in one location disappeared with
DOS or shortly thereafter.)

Can I prove that I owned the retail version by providing the 25 digit
activation key or does mocrosoft want a receipt of purchase or some other
item that I wouldn't have. that was like 3yrs ago!

The product key was enough for the rep when I called about two years ago.
