2003 trial edition trying to activate

I have been running XP with Office XP Professional with Publisher 2002 since
July 2004. I have my computer set to get Windows updates automatically.

Earlier this week, I restarted my system in response to one of these
automatic updates. After the restart was done, I tried to open a Word
document that I had created in the last 6 months. When I did this, an
activation wizard opened and told me Office 2003 trial edition was activated
and that I should register. I did not. I have been able to work on my Word
documents the rest of the week.

Today, I tried to open an Excel file that I created a couple of months ago.
The activation wizard appeared again and said I could convert and that my
trial version expires in August.

I have a valid Office 2002 version installed. Why is the system trying to
force the 2003 trial version on me after all this time and how do I get it to
stop? Will I use all access to my 2002 version in August? Can I go out to
Add/Remove programs and delete the 2003 trial version or will that mess up my
2002 full version? Help!!!

Perhaps your PC was originally supplied with a trial version of 2003 which
you failed to uninstall before installing Oxp?
If so it was a miracle that Oxp continued to function without problems.
In add / remove is Office 2003 shown?
Do you have your Oxp cd?

You should probably do a System Restore restore point and then delete Office
2003. Who knows how it got there or who put it there. If Office XP
experiences problems after this you may have to reinstall from CD.

Cheers,

Earle
