2004 Excel freezes after "Quicktime" updater . . .

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Power PC I recently spoke with a tech at microsoft concerning my issue. We went over every possibility and workaround including reinstalling and a complete system reinstall. I also had two different identical machines to try this on: 1ghz Dual PPC G4 Power Mac running OSX 10.5.x
This issue is with Excel crashing at the save point (the program freezes and I have to force quit)

Here is what I found on my own: I can do a fresh install of the os only up to 10.5.8 without any other updates and excel works perfectly. As soon as I install the "Quicktime" update in the software updates excel starts to crash at the save point prior to this there is no issue.

Does anyone have a work around for this?

Update:

After the following: uncheck save preview with document uncheck autosaave Now the crash occurs at the first launch (after a restart) and then works fine every time afterwards. But each time the computer is restarted this cycle repeats.

Now delete User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008 (the whole
folder!) and chances are, it will come right.

Hope this helps

Did not work, you mention 2008 folder but I'm in 2004: office mac / student edition

So you are: my bad...

1) Exit all Office for Mac programs.
2) Delete the Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder.
3) Delete the file Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Excel.plist

That should do it.

Cheers

Then I guess you're not using Excel 2004. Better look in Excel>About ...
And tell us exactly what you are using.
