Go to the new "Handheld Sync Installer" for 2004 in Microsoft Office
2004/Additional Tools/ folder, and double-click it. It will install the new
conduits for you.

To avoid accidental data loss, synchronization between Entourage 2004 and
palmOne's new handhelds is turned off by default. Follow this procedure to
turn on synchronization after both Palm synchronization software and the
Microsoft Handheld Synchronization software have been installed:
1. Launch the HotSync Manager application (usually located in
HD/Applications/Palm)
2. Under the HotSync menu, choose Conduit Settings.
3. Double-click the "Entourage Conduit" entry.
4. Near the bottom, check the option to "Enable synchronization with these
new handhelds."
5. Click OK.

As before, it syncs the primary category of contacts, tasks and (I think)
notes but to do it for calendar events you have to get a palm add-on utility
like DateBook5. (I don't have it myself, but so I've been told.) Palm OS 4
has not changed - the conduit can't do anything about that. Unfortunately
the new Palm OS 5.x on the two more advanced Palms which can assign event
categories was released far, far too late for MS to come up with a new
conduit for this release. I'm sure they'll do so for a later release.

Does the new conduit retain Entourage¹s category settings on the Palm?

2004 still not working ran Handheld Sync installer, all office programs
closed.

Palm address, datebook, memo and todo conduit are in disabled folder.

Was not able to open entourage settings conduit, when I double clicked on
it, nothing happened. Following is report.

Loading ³Microsoft Entourage Conduit²
Conduit ³Entourage Conduit² version 3.0.0
Sync type is Fast
Remote database 1 name is AddressDB
Remote database 2 name is DatebookDB
Remote database 3 name is MemoDB
Remote database 4 name is ToDoDB
Before you can synchronize with the applications on this handheld device,
you must enable synchronization in the Entourage Conduit Settings dialog
box. For the latest information on compatibility issues and solutions, visit
the Office 2004 Web Site synchronization failed

Ran FSCK and repaired permissions. Then went back and double clicked on
entourage settings and it opened. I was able then to sync.

Thanks everyone!

Paul (and everybody) --

I would just love to use Entourage 2004 with my Sony Clie and Datebook 5
(which I currently use). I also run Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" so I
can sync with the Clie and also mount Memory Sticks on the Mac desktop.

Anyway, does anybody know for sure if Entourage 2004 does indeed
preserve Datebook 5 Appointment categories (as, indeed, Outlook does on
the PC)?

Thanks,

Steve

There's no difference in functionality with 2004, only performance. If you
couldn't sync calendar event categories to Datebook 5 in Palm or Clié (and
you couldn't) with X, you can't do it with 2004. On the other hand, it's
incredibly fast. I did an entire "Overwrites" in less than 60 seconds (felt
more like 39). Regular weekly syncing takes about 3 seconds, so in fact I'm
now doing it every day or so. Takes about 1-2 seconds.

Yes, it will preserve them, but will not copy them from DB5 categories to
entourage categories or vice-versa.

As an addendum to Paul¹s statement, I normally sync via Bluetooth with my
T3. I will freely admit I am biased toward Office 2004, and I¹m not sure if
the conduit affects the speed of a Bluetooth sync, but the Entourage conduit
syncs very quickly. As I recall, the conduit usually got bogged down on the
Address Book, but it goes by now very quickly.

I do hope Microsoft does enhance the conduit to support the T3, in
particular with categories (and even better, maintain the colors on the
categories :)).

In all, Office 2004/Entourage 2004 have very little to be envious of their
Windows counterparts. I¹ve already got several projects going in Project
Center, and it is one of the best features of this release. Of course, it
isn¹t Microsoft Project, but for organizing files, schedules, etc. on the
Mac, it¹s great.

If only we could synch some aspects of Project Center to the T3...now THAT
would be cool! (Though, probably not likely.)

Hello my fellow Mac heads and T3 users.

Someone let me know if I¹ve been out in the dark here, but I gave up on
trying to sync my T3 with Entourage about a month and a half ago. This
after trying a beta from PocketMac that is designed to kind of sync
Entourage with iCal & Address Book, and then sync with the T3. The result:
a truck load of mixed up dates, time zone foul ups and duplications. I gave
up, actually went back to Palm Desktop.

So, at this point I¹m trying to sort out some of these posts to see if
Office 2004 will include a new conduit for Entourage that will sync with the
newer Palm OS applications, such as on the T3.

Any grounds for hopes?

If not, does anyone have any other ideas for someone who really really wants
to use Entourage in conjunction with their handheld?

Thanks,
Terry

The conduit sent out with 2004 will sync to the newer palms BUT...

The new version of palms was released quite late in the development cycle,
and MS were given no advanced warning/notification. It was too late to
incorporate the changes into a new conduit, so the current conduit doesn¹t
know anything about the new palm fields (like, second address etc). These
will not be synced. I can¹t even guarantee that data entered into those
fields won¹t be lost (no reason to think so, but it is a Œpossibility¹).
Apart from this, the fields that used to sync to the older palm fields will
still sync to old & new palm apps.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS were to develop a new conduit at some point in
the future, but I have no Œinside information¹ to say that are are doing so,
or intend to do so.

Terry From personal experience, I¹ve been using my T3 with Entourage since
the T3¹s release. On the whole, I¹ve had little to complain about, other
than the categories issue, which has been answered a number of times of this
forum. I¹ve run into a couple of glitches with Entourage X,

I¹d also like to remind people that, unlike with Outlook, where there are a
number of 3rd-party conduits, Microsoft is essentially the sole provider for
a Palm conduit. I can¹t really fault Microsoft for not writing the conduit
for the newer handhelds.
