Is there a patch or download that MAC users can get so we can open the
new Windows Office 2007 .xlsx files? I have the latest version Office
2004.

Thanks

The converter from MS isn't out yet, but you can open .xlsx files with
NeoOffice:

http://neooffice.org

and save them as a .xls file.

Microsoft has released a beta of the convertor which you can try.
It is called:
Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 0.2 (Beta)

You can find it in:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/

Mac Excel 2008, which will be release soon, will support opening and saving
of XLSX files.

Edwin

The current beta supports Word and Excel, but not PowerPoint.

But it doesn't convert .xlsx files, which is what the OP asked for...

Oh. I was going by the MacBU website:
This version of the converter can convert the following Office Open
XML file formats:
? Word Document (*.docx)
? Word Macro-Enabled Document (*.docm)
? PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx)
? PowerPoint Show (*.ppsx)
? PowerPoint Template (*.potx)

Oh! You're right. That converter doesn't support Excel! (I'm surprised!)

I also tested with the application called "Numbers" in iWork'08. That can
open XLSX files, and can save as XLS. (But if the file contains more complex
components, e.g. Charts, there could be some different levels of
incompatibility. The application will give a compatibility report.)
