[2007] indexing and performance improvement

Types there are iFilters for all the default file types

QUESTION
will my indexing performance improve if I remove all the default file types
from Shared Services Administration: SharedServices1 > Search Settings > File
Types that will not be in my Document Libraries OR does it not effect
performance unless that particular file type is uploaded, in effect, the
index service will not need to do the work if a given file type is not there
