[2007] MSP Portfolio Analyzer Actuals - CUBE

Colin

I'd like to compare actual timesheet hours to forecast/"work" hours. I
created a project and logged 16 hours against it. Those hours do not show
in the MSP Portfolio Analyzer cube but do show in the Timesheet cube. I
assumed they'd show in "Actual Work". If I mark % complete in the project
the percentage complete shows up in the Actual Work field. I thought this
cube had a value for actual timesheet hours worked but I can't seem to find
it.

Thanks,

Colin

In Project Server 2007, there is a distinction between timesheets and
task updates. Depending on the workflow that you set up, one of these
can be imported into the other, but this does not happen
automatically.

Any time you see in the "My Timesheets" section of PWA is timesheet
time, and does not go to the project plan when it is submitted. Time
in "My Tasks" is task updates, which should go through the designated
approver and into the project plan. Then, once the project plan is
published, this time will go to the cube and the Data Analysis views
as Actual Work.

There are import features that let a user import time entered in
either timesheets or task updates to the other interface, but the user
still must submit the time after "Importing."

There is a timesheet cube that reports on time in submitted and
unsubmitted timesheets, but this is a different cube from the
MSP_Portfolio Analyser cube.

Thanks James - Follow up three part question.
1. Is it possible to have "My Tasks" automatically "import timesheet" data
or will user always have to manually make these updates after inputing actual
hours in the timesheet?

2. Is there a way to turn on auto approval for task updates? We have a
limited number of PM's and the system will be used primarily for recording
actuals for accounting purposes and comparing those to forecasted hours. If
not auto approve is there a view to see all tasks that need approving in the
system?

3. If I'm just worried about comparing forecasts and actuals from the
timesheet cube, is there a better way to compare those two than using the
portfolio analyzer cube? I'm more concerned with forecast hours on a project
than I am forecasts for a specific task or resource.

Thanks,

Colin
