2007 resource overallocation anomaly

Kerry

We're using the enterprise resource pool, where reosurces are assigned to
multiple projects.

My Problem: When using the resource usage view in Project Pro, I have a
resource that is showing a very large amount of hours in "other projects" for
a particular week. When I expand it, only one other project appears, and its
only has a small number of hours showing for it. No other projects are
displayed, but the other project summary hours are still the large number.

When I use Web Access resource center, view assignments, this large number
of hours does not appear. I've tested it, and the only way "other Projects"
are displayed in a plans Project Pro resource usage view, is when the other
projects are published. So I would assume that the Web Access resource view
should match the Project Pro view. At any rate, I can't find the invisible
project causing the large amount of overallocation. Any ideas?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

In spite of the bug, your situation is why we recommend that prior to
leveling across multiple projects, you should always do the following:

1. Launch Project Professional 2007.
2. In the Login dialog, deselect the "Load summary resource assignments"
option and click the OK button.
3. Open each project in which you have a resource that is overallocated
across multiple projects.
4. Apply the Resource Usage view.

In step #2 above, you eliminate the "Other projects" information for each
resource in the Resource Usage view. In step #4, when you apply the
Resource Usage view in any project, you see the task assignments for each
resource in EVERY open project. This allows you to select each resource and
level his/her overallocations individually. You can also select a small
group of resources as an alternate method. You should NEVER level in the
Gantt Chart view, however, as you lose control over the leveling process
when it levels all resources at one time. Hope this helps.
