2007 Resource Usage View showing incorrect values

I have a plan (Plan A) where a resource is assigned a total of 5.38
hours. From the resource usage view in Plan A, all looks good. I
started a new plan (Plan B) and added that resource as a resource in
the new plan, saved and closed the plan, opened it back up and went to
the resource usage view of the new plan. In the new plan, it shows
the resource to have 17 hours assigned from Plan A. It appears that
number grows (was 15.2 earlier in the day) when Plan A is published.
It is my understanding that there is an issue in 2003 that is similar
but I wanted to check to see if there has been any reported issues
with Resource Usage in 2007. We have not installed any hot fixes or
patches.

What happens if you open Plan A, then open Plan B, and then apply the
Resource Usage view? Are the hours now correct for Plan A? Let us know.

Yes, that shows the correct values.

I'm hoping that is not the only solution, though, as I will have
resources across many plans managed by multiple PMs who will need an
accurate total for a resource's time.

This being the case, what you are seeing is the same behavior in Project
Professional 2007 that we saw in Project Professional 2003. In order to get
accurate numbers for other projects in the Resource Usage view of any
project, you have to open the other projects. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. Do you know if this is something Microsoft feels is an
issue and may be addressing? My issue will be that one PM may not
have access to all the plans that a resource is on so opening up all
the plans is not possible.

Also, it appears that the Resource Availability data in the Resource
Center view shows the same incorrect data that the resource usage view
showed. Has this been something that others have reported?

Sounds like this in not new but really seems that one of the main
features that an enterprise would utilize Project Server for does not
work.

Thanks again Dale for your response and help.

I don't work for Microsoft, and my MVP status doesn't give me any insider
information inside of Microsoft. So, I can't really comment on their plans
for this situation. Given the fact that you see the wrong information in
the Resource Availability view is not a good sign. If you have published
the latest data in both of the projects and still do not see the correct
data in the Resource Availability view, I can only think you may have
uncovered one more bug in Project Server 2007. Let's hope SP1 fixes some of
these problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. I'll open up a case with our TAM and see where it goes.
