2007 Runtime confusion

Hi, I am reading as much as I can on 2007 Access runtime and am confused. I
have a fairly simple inquiry-only application that I want to distribute to
users who may or may not have Access. I think I should use the 'Require
runtime download if needed' option when creating the package. However, does
this make problems for people with older versions of Access on their
computer? Also, another question. Since this is an inquiry-only app, is it
possible allow people to use the application from the cd rather than loading
anything to their hard drive?

I would really appreciate some advice on this. I do not want to mess up
anyone's Access on their computer. Thanks, Sherry

If you install the runtime (or the full version) of A2007 on a system
that already has another version of Access installed, you will change
the file associations to MDE etc. to run using the new msaccess.exe. I
don't know if that qualifies for your definition of "mess up".

Re the CD: try it. I think it will work.

Thank you Tom.
If the system has 2003 installed and the user has 2003 applications, will
this runtime prevent them from being able to update those applications? (I
think that's what I mean by 'mess up'.)

Do you know what I need to do to try and make it run from the cd? Since cd
drives could be different (D, E, etc.), do I need to somehow let the user
type in their drive (and how would I do this)?

I tried making a shortcut that points to my cd accessruntime.exe and the
acccdr and that does not work.

Two versions can coexist. On such a system you would always want to
start the apps from a shortcut that includes the full path to the
version of MsAccess you want to use.
NOTE: there is nothing wrong with running an A2003 application on the
A2007 runtime.

You can include a small script on the CD that would auto-start the app
(unless the user turned off this option), just like most setup CDs do.
