2007 Word Template

Theresa

Hi:

Can anyone tell me why when I create a document based on a template on a
network drive, then save the document on my local drive, close and re-open
the file that it appears to be opening the template on the network drive? Is
this some of the new 2007 checking processes?

Thanks,

Theresa

The name and path of the currently attached template is stored in the
document file when you save it. Each time you reopen the document, no matter
where the document file is, it will try to open the attached template at the
same time.

You can change which template is attached. If you attach the Normal.dotm
template instead of the one you started with, you (and anyone else to whom
you send the document) will get Normal.dotm -- which is always local --
opening behind the document.

To do this, first go to Office button > Word Options > Popular and check
the box to show the Developer tab. On that tab, click the Document Template
button. In the Templates & Add-Ins dialog, click the Attach button and
select Normal.dotm from the Attach Template dialog.
