I cannot change the shading for the dates in the template. It seems to me,
that when you change the dates in the "Project Phase" section, it should
automatically change the shaded areas in the calendar section. Any
suggestions?

if we're looking at the same template, then unfortunately the answer is:
while the template would be pretty cool if it worked as you describe it,
the calendar section doesn't seem to have any automation at all, and
hence it's more a demonstration about formatting.

[The descriptive text in my language version mentions that after
changing the dates above, you can shade the date ranges in the calendar
accordingly ... ]

Excel seems to be a bit better suited for something likes this -- if
Project is unavailable, that is ...
