24 Hour Calender

I have a few tasks that require some equipment to be on them for 24 hours a
day for about 4 days at a time. There are only 4 pieces of such equipment,
and many tasks that require their use. Once the equipment finishes at one
location, it moves on to the other. I had one of these machines finish its
work on Monday morning 8/4/08. It started last Thursday, 7/31/08. For some
reason, Project is telling me that it only took 3 days to complete when it
actually took about 5. I have a 24/7 calender assigned to both the resource
and the task, Why is the duration being wrongly altered?

Interesting. Sometimes when my duration doesn't add up to what I think it
should be, I find the time of day is wrong.

Plus double check all the settings.

Hi,

I havent been able to reproduce the results, but duration is calculated
using the default settings for what defines the length of a day. Hence if
you keep the default at 8 hours per day, then a 5 day task will be 40 hours
which can then be extinguished by applying a 24/7 calendar to the task and
resouirce within 1 day and 16 hours. So the gantt chart will then show a 5
day duration starting on Thursday morning and ending on Friday midnight.

Have a play with the settings to see how the "options" settigns for the
calendar in terms of setting the definition of a day, month and week etc
changes the durations and start and finsih times when assigning a calendar
using 24/7. The way that I usually set these up is to have an elapsed day
duration. This ethod then ingores the calendar for calculation and simply
calculates the start and finish exactly aas one would expect if using 24/7.
The way to set this as a duation is to use 'ed' instead of simply 'd'. Now,
using the example above, the 5ed task will show starting on Thursday and
extending through the weekend and finishing on Tuesday morning exactly as
expected.

Hope this helps.

Regards
