24 hour delay for Entourage to see Exchange 2007 messages

re: My Entourage doesn't show some message on Exchange until 24 hours have
passed.

I have a MacPro, 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X 10.4.10

My Entourage was formerly connected to Exchange 2003 and worked fine,
however since moving my mailbox to an Exchange 2007 there are some messages
that Entourage will not show me until 24 hours have passed. I see them fine
if I use OWA or Outlook. Most of the messages(not all) are admin messages
from our Mailman server. Entourage does retrieve messages coming from that
server that are distributed to any of the lists that I am subscribed to
without delay. I am the list admin and don't see most of the admin messages
for 24 hours from the time the message is received in my mailbox.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

I have seen this problem occur with one of my users this weekend three
times. We are also using Exchange 2007, and he is using Entourage
2004. I noticed while troubleshooting this issue that the mail item
gets delivered to his mailbox in Exchange 2007. I know this because I
open it via OWA and I can see it there as an unread item, however it
does not show up in Entourage 2004. Two or three days later after the
weekend it appeared in his Entourage Inbox.

I dont know why it is happening. Here is a similar problem with
Exchange 2003 that I was able to find

Any solutions please let me know too.

I just remember another item to this. If I move a message that Entourage has
not retrieved from the Inbox using Outlook or OWA and leave the message as
UnRead, Entourage then retrieves the message. However, if I read the message
using Outlook or OWA but leave it in the Inbox, Entourage still does not
retrieve it until 24 hours later.

The delay is probably caused by the government "SNATCH" program. It has to
read the Emails first to see if it is OK to be sent.

Hi Gordon!

Was the Exchange Server the only thing that was changed? Or did you also
have to change server addresses as well? Can you verify whether or not
Entourage is pointed to a front-end or back-end Exchange Server?

Our Exchange Background: We started with Exchange 2000 about 5 years ago,
upgraded to Exchange 2003 a few years ago and all but a small group are
still on Exchange 2003. Our exchange setup has always been a
Front-end/Back-end. Late Spring, we installed an Exchange 2007
back-end/front-end and have been testing it with a small group of users. Our
plan is to do the big switch late December.

My Entourage client is pointing at the 2007 front-end server. At this time,
because we are testing the new Exchange, we are using a new front-end DNS
name. Once we migrate all of our users in December we hope to use the
previous front-end DNS names with the new front-end systems. I also update
my version of Entourage when updates are released. I am currently running
v11.3.6(070618)

Hi Gordon!

Sorry for the delayed reply.

If you're pointed to a front-end server then you should be able to use
that same server address in a web browser and verify whether or not your
messages are indeed appearing on your front-end server. If they are then
you may have some communications issues. Or, because Exchange Server
2007 is so relatively new in deployment, you may have hit some of the
earlier problems that may be addressed in future updates.

Are you able to connect to your back-end server and test whether or not
you still have the same issue?

Also, is the front-end server you're using one that's used exclusively
within your company network (not an Internet address)? I don't advise
connecting to an Exchange Server front-end if it means having to pass
through any proxy servers or firewalls.

Hope this helps!
