24 hours for cube building?

I am the network engineer for a medium size company, which is running
MS-Project. The user who admins Project, has been having performance
issues and is requesting me to buy/build him a new server. The current
server its on is a Compaq Proliant DL-380, GEN III, 2 3.2 GHz
processors, and 3 gb of DDR Ram. It also runs 2 72.8 gb drives in a
RAID 1. This machine is solely dedicated to MS-Project.

I know there are lots of variables, but how long do other projects take
to build cubes? I feel his pain, as 24 hours of cpu-crunching feels
excessive. Also, there are 25k errors in the event log, most are like
the 2 examples shown at the bottom.

The database is ~ 18 gb in size.

What can we do to speed up the performance of the cube building, short
of buying a new 30k server?
