29 megabyte MDB is empty

As I tried to save a report, I got error messages that it could not be saved,
then everything in the database disappeared. I tried repair and compact with
no results. I tried to import its contents into a new database, but it appears
to be empty. Can a corrupted database be saved? (Access2000, WinXP Pro).
