2nd Request - Resource Assignment

I posted this yesterday but got no response:
I have created a master workplan that consists of two parts: Several
workplans inserted into the master (so they can update the master when the
PMs update) and tasks from other projects that are not reported via Project
so I just added them manually at the end. This looks fine/beautiful/just
what I want but.....when I try to allocate a resource from my list of
resources in my
Resource List the application is (1) going crazy and not allowing me to
select and Assign a resource - as a matter of fact the resource names don't
initially show but if I add a name, close the dialog box and reopen, then
they all show; (2) once I can see all the names after doing item #1, I cannot
select any of them to add to the inserted task--all buttons are active except
the Assign button; (3) the application keeps crashing and asking me to send
an Error Report to MicroSoft. Sidebar note: I have tried to assign
resources with all inserted projects opened, as well as, with all inserted
projects closed.

How are your files structured, that is, where are the resource entries? Are
you using a Resource Pool file that the individual prjects draw from or are
they listed somewhere else?

There is not one universal Resource Pool file that they have set up. I
didn't think that could be set up without have Project Server, which I know
the company doesn't have and will not get. Soooo, the PMs have created their
own workplan on their hard drives, saved to a common document repository
tool, and update from there. Is it possible to build the Resource Pool
without Server?

Yes, you can use a single resource pool. All project files point to
same file holding the resources. Fully discussed in Help and in most
book on Project. Best you read it about it there rather try to repeat here.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
